Welcome to the Tara Centre

The Tara Centre is an educational organisation in Jersey established to provide counselling courses and Mindfulness and stress reduction programs. We also offer therapeutic support for a wide range of issues with experienced and accredited therapists. We aim to promote well-being and self-development on the island.

The Tara Centre welcomes applicants from all religions and equally values personal journeying and lived experience in secular life. Our ethical and ideological basis lies in the substantial psychological research which links kindness and compassion to mental health and well being.

Our training team all have an extensive background in local services, understand the needs of the local community and aim to provide courses at reasonable prices.

Exploring self-soothing techniques then help her clients to see things more clearly thus encouraging them to reflect upon their thoughts and behaviour towards themselves and others.

Ruth is also a qualified yoga teacher offering a gentle, safe and effective form of yoga which releases tensions held in the deep core muscles in and around the pelvic area and spine, thus soothing both body and mind.

What our students are saying about us

Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling

‘I feel the Tara Centre has offered me the best opportunity for development of my knowledge, skills and therapeutic practice.

I have found that their method of teaching is really intuitive. The tutors are very perceptive and have a richness and depth in their knowledge, experience and humanity that brings the theory alive but also brings out the best in each student. It has been the best course I have undertaken and has genuinely changed my life for the better.’

HG Head of Human Resources

Certificate in Counselling Skills

‘This course is so much more than just developing your listening skills. This course is also teaching me things about myself and others as well as helping me work towards doing further counselling training. The course is much more than I had expected and I’d highly recommend it to anyone who wants to develop themselves and others.’

Tibetan Buddhist Workshops

‘I have attended 3 Tibetan Buddhist Workshops lead by Vicki Rice Weber. Vicki is a lovely teacher in every way, clear, articulate and warm.

On each occasion Vicki brought the history of the ancient Tibetan Buddhist practices to the group with a deep reverence and respect for their innate wisdom, showing us how in today’s fast paced modern world these practices still are as relevant as ever. In so doing Vicki gave me the opportunity to understand their symbolism, breathing techniques and visualisations. Her lighthearted approach and genuine belief in their restorative value has inspired me to continue practicing them. I regularly practice Tonglen, chanting and mantra since attending.

Vicki has introduced me to many other practices that I equally enjoy because of their direct link between body movement and mind – eagerly awaiting the next workshop Vicki.’

Mindfulness for Health and Wellbeing

‘It’s difficult to put into words how much mindfulness has helped me – I only know that it has.

Even if I’ve strayed from formal practice, when I start to feel overwhelmed, I bring it back to the breath. That brief moment of focus – exploring how I’m breathing in that moment, expanding it to thoughts, sounds and sensations, then bringing it back to the breath – rebalances me. It sounds so simple, yet it has a profound and lasting effect. I first encountered mindfulness on a course led by Di Hearne. She has a wonderful way of teaching – I’m looking forward to her next mindfulness course.’
