The Tara Centre Privacy Notice

The Tara Centre is a registered as a ‘Controller’ and a ‘Processor’ under the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018. We collect and process personal information about our students.

This notice explains how we use and share your information.

We collect information about you on paper or online using a form or email. We also may collect it by telephone.

Why do we collect information about you?

  • To enroll you onto our courses
  • To enable us to contact you for the duration of the course; for the purposes of class cancellations; provide course reading, information and guidance
  • To register you with the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body, the awarding body for your counselling qualification, for the purposes of exams and certification

Data Sharing

  • We have to share some data with CPCAB to register you with them. Then you will be able to sit their exam and have a certificate
  • With your permission we may share information with a counselling agency for the purposes of placement experience (only on level 4)
  • A disclosure may be necessary for the purposes of the prevention and/or detection of crime or to prevent risk of harm to an individual

We continually review and update our sharing agreements to reflect changes in our services and feedback from service users, as well as to comply with changes in the law.

We do not process your information overseas using web services that are hosted outside the European Economic Area.

At no time will your information be passed to organisations for marketing or sales purposes or for any commercial use.


If you email us we may keep a record of your email address and a copy of the email for record keeping purposes, unless you tell us not to.

We will not share your email address or email contents unless it is necessary to do so to fulfil CPCAB requirements or to comply with a legal obligation.

Telephone calls

We do not monitor telephone calls and we do not keep file notes of conversations.

Interview notes

Our courses require an application and interview process. We therefore gather some interview notes about you, this is to fulfil your request for your place on your chosen course. Any notes taken about you will be kept on file with your application data. The file is held securely and in accordance with CPCAB retention periods.

Your rights

You can ask us to stop processing your information or withdraw your consent to process your information.

You have the right to request that we stop processing, or withdraw your consent to process your personal data, but this may mean that we are unable to enrol you onto your chosen course or register you with CPCAB.

You can ask us to correct or amend your information

You have the right to challenge the accuracy of the information we hold about you and request that it is corrected. We will have the data corrected on our files and also updated with CPCAB.

You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you

You are legally entitled to request a copy of any information we hold about you.

We normally email, text or Whatsapp students if we have to cancel a class for tutor illness or sometimes to share useful class information. If you do not want to receive emails or texts from us, or if you do not want to be part of a Whatsapp group with your class, you must please email to tell us at
